Hello my name is Julio Mendez and I'm here at the Oregon Migrant Leadership Institute because i want to learn how to become a better leader. I hope to learn a lot of characteristics of being a leader, to be someone to be looked up to or someone to follow by example. Also to make new friends that are here for the same reason. This institute will help me a lot for sports I participate like Football, Wrestling, and Track and field. Because its my time to be the leader and during my three years doing sports i always followed the example of all the leaders before me. To get better, work hard, never giving up, and giving your all every single game, match, or race. A motto that reflects who I am as person is that "Your never too busy to make yourself better", I follow that motto because its something that is true, that your aren't too busy busy to be better during the sports and off season.
The Challenge Course
The challenge course was a great experience for me because it taught me to leader and to be determine at what I have to do. When I first got there I felt a little scared at first because i had to do the high course challenges which to anyone would be really scarey to do. During the challenges I felt confiendent in myslef to do the challenges and scared when i notice how high i was getting but i didn't care because I was already doing it in the high course challenges, like in the Duo Climb challenge where I had to use team work with Omar to get to the top of the boards. In the low course challenges I had to take in as one of the leaders for this one. We had to put a ping-pong ball in a cup by using pvc pipes and by connecting them together with out moving our legs. After doing the challenge course I learned that taking charge and being determined really help in our challenge.
During the week I was here at OMLI, we got to use the i pads to make videos with animotos and educreations. It was a great experience for me and my group.
